A Doggie’s Spring Break – Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Pet Friendly
Well, it’s that time of the year again, Spring Break! I started planning for this trip about two months ago when I dialed up my personal travel planner over at Journey Mexico and told them to look for the best pet friendly hotels in Mexico for me. Waiting for their call back, they came to me with the options of Viceroy Zihuatanejo and Capella Ixtapa They told me that they were some of the finest pet-friendly hotels on Mexico’s S.Pacific Coast and that I was sure to love either.
Being the discerning dog that I am, I decided to try them both. First was Viceroy Zihuatanejo because they had an awesome beach and I wanted to play in the waves! At Viceroy Zihutanejo, the concierge had set up for me my own bed, water, and treats. Their doggie policy only allowed me in the room and at the beach (no restaurants or pools) but since I’m so incredibly handsome, my charm allowed me to sit quietly at the pool when no one was around which was really nice. While Mom and Dad ordered beers and nachos, the waiters would bring me baked treats and cold water.
There are three different pools, 2 restaurants and 300m of beach. I spent most of my time frapping in the ocean and signing pawtographs to all my American fans that passed me while sunbathing in the sand. After long days at the playa, going back to the room was just as fun because I had my own pool!!! Yep, a pool all for Benito himself! I didn’t swim cause I was scared but it was pretty pawsome. I give Viceroy Zihuatanejo a 8.5/10 rating on my Mexico pet friendly hotel scale since they treated me as much as a guest as my parents.
After three days we moved to Capella Ixtapa. When I strutted into the lobby, everyone already knew my name and was shouting for me like a star (apparently the paparazzi had leaked some photos of me at Viceroy!). Capella Ixtapa is more strict about their pet policy – you have to sign some rules and we are only allowed in the rooms at through the hallways to get to the room. No restaurants, no pool, no loitering. My reservation said they’d give me a bed, water, snacks, and toys but they must have forgot because I never got them. Having to spend all my time in the room was actually amazing. Again, I had my own plunge pool and huge terrace that overlooked the ocean. Capella Ixtapa is built into a cliffside and from each point of the hotel their is amazing panoramic views! my parents told me it looked like Italy’s Amalfi Coast but way better! I felt like The King of the World!! Although I spent most of my time lounging in my private pool, everyone was so nice to me there whenever they saw me. The service was impeccable, the food amazing (Mom brought me a doggy bag every night !) and it was truly a 5* luxury hotel in Mexico. However, on my Mexico pet friendly hotel scale, I give it a 6/10 since I was welcomed but not encouraged, and they forgot my bed and toys.
